Excellent wood vise
Compared to rocklers for 189 this vice is great. The instructions or lack of are a joke so you have to figure it out for yourself and it doesnât come with a handle so you need to buy or make one. Definitely recommend.

Vice Advice
This is a sturdy, solid vice that shows great promise for the price. (I liked it well enough that I ordered a second.) A couple of notes from an incompetent installer. Making a template is easy. No sweat. (Just don’t turn it upside down when you drill then holes…then you have problems indeed!) I saw a lot of comments about how hard it was to hold in place during installing. Using pipe clamps as shown, I found it drew the vice into alignment and kept the base plate up tight against the bench bottom. Made installation a cinch. Be cautious on the handle dimension. Many of the reviews found for the 9″ vice are actually for the 10″. They take different dowel sizes…as I discovered. I believe 3/4″ is the correct size…not the 1″ that I purchased at Lowes.

Quality produce, but would upgrade.
Iâve been using this vise for about a year and a half now and I would definitely say it works really well. For the price you pay itâs definitely worth it, especially over the big box store vises.Pros:- Very smooth and easy to open and close. Making your life easier when moving workpieces in and out, or swapping out different sized pieces.- you can definitely apply solid torque on the workpiece. You can really crank down on the vise and it holds that position well. Only fear Iâve had is breaking the wood and never the vise itself.- better than the ones you get at the big box stores for both price, size, and durability, from what I saw at least.Cons:- it will bend/flex if you try to clamp on 1 side of the vise. This is honestly the only reason I gave it 4 stars vice 5. Not a major issue or deal breaker for me (as of now), however, I would have preferred a more sturdy vise, but you get what you pay for. When I try and clamp on 1 side of the vise, I have to use a second piece on the other side of the vise to counter the flexing. If youâre looking at this product instead of a much more expensive vise, that, along with a quick release, are probably the only things youâre paying extra for, and it might be worth it if you are going to use the vise for smaller workpieces or working on end grain / generally securing the piece in a verticals position, which is pretty common for most people looking at this style of vise.Overall this is a good product, and Iâve loved having it in my shop, however, if given the opportunity to go back, I would probably just buy once and cry once, and buy a more expensive vise that will not flex or bend.
Maylon watch worked perfectly for a week and then slowly started loosing time everyday to 6+ hrs da –
Good basic bench vise.
I bought this vise to use as a practice vise project before I install another vise on an oak work bench that I am in the process of building. I figured that pine and plywood would be cheaper to fix than oak if I messed up the installation. This is a very good vise and it served me well as a practice project on a portable woodworking bench top vise that I recently built. Thanks to watching some Youtube videos, and not the product instructions, the installation went rather smoothly. In hindsight, a quick release vise would have been worth the extra cost. Do your research, look at installation videos and I believe that even a beginning woodworker like myself can handle this installation. Don’t worry if you make small mistakes, just remember that wood is very reparable.

Beefy!
To me weight equals quality. And this predict has weight! All surfaces are clean and bright. No sharp edges and smooth movement. Sturdy hardware. Good buy for a basic vise!

Well made and it works great
Mechanically this device is very good. I also like the fact that the company supplies drawing with dimensions which does help with installation. Especially getting the clearance holes lined up. The main screw drivers machines well and makes this easy to turn in and I out.

Great Value for the Price
I purchased the Yost 9-inch vise to add a front face vise to a smaller woodworking bench. The bench is not that heavy so I needed something that would complement the construction without having to engineer a lot of support structure. This vise fit nicely and mounted in between the bench dog holes for a clean installation. I needed a medium duty vise with sturdy construction that would resist racking reasonably well but did not want to pay for the âpremiumâ brands. Yost has been around for a long time, so I was familiar with older products. It took about 2 hours to mount on the bench, taking my time. I purchased a 7/8-inch dowel handle at a local woodworking store and made a face out of 2×6 stock to complete the install. It works the way I need it to. I believe the value for the price is really good in this price point. I would recommend to others.

it’s good for a first bench vise or maybe a backup bench vise.
It’s very strong and the installation is pretty easy even without instructions. My only real issue with this is the racking is terrible. You absolutely have to put in a block the same thickness of the piece you’re working on opposite from one another or the racking is bad enough the vise will let go of the workpiece no matter how tight you have it. If there was a good way to eliminate the racking in this it would be an easy 5 stars.

Real sturdy vice. Simple enough to install even without a template. The opening is wide enough to clamp a 2×8 and work with it confidently. Had to make my own handle but a broken broom handle worked just fine.
