    This is a GREAT VISE
I spent a lot of time reviewing cross slide vises and reading a lot of reviews. They all said the vise needed to be disassembled and cleaned. Several talked about quality control issues. Poor castings, bent or missing parts and machining marks left on the ways. NONE of the reviewers on this vise, mentioned quality control issues. That along with the brand name led me to purchase this vise. When I received the vise I looked the shipping box over closely. I found no damage. I opened the container and removed the vise looking for any imperfections. I found NO Casting Imperfections. I disassembled and cleaned the vise reassembled with small amounts of grease. It did take a few minutes to adjust the tension on the ways/tables. This I believe is a personal thing. I have used the vise and is works very smoothly and made drilling duplicate holes in 1/4″ steel very easy. Another quality product by WILTON and AMAZON.

For the money it works good
Good for inexpensive cross slide vise. Less play in this compared to some I looked into

Take it apart and clean/adjust the tension on the shims
When I got this, nothing wanted to move. I disassembled it, which is fairly easy, and cleaned everything. The rails are really rough, you can see mill marks everywhere. I took a flat file to all the rails and cleaned them up a bit before reassembly, then lubed things up. Adjust the tension screws for the shims so it’s not locking things up. Everything works fine at this point, slides easily in both directions. Couldn’t get 4 bolts in place on my 12″ Wen drill press, but I’m not milling with this, only using this for positioning of materials. Should you have to disassemble before using? Probably not, but it works fine for what I’m using it for.

Appears a bit low on qualit.
Appears way to cheap for a product with a $259 list price, paid $107.49 on black Friday sale, not sure if it was even worth that, spent hours working on improving it’s performance to a maybe 3 star item. Having invested so much time on it, not sure if I will return it or not.A bit disappointing!Update:The cranking handles finally excepted oil and are working way better, I was able to re-engineer the V-Track rail system so it no longer constantly jambs up, and the clamping shim plate no longer slides out as well, I can now tighten them to very close tolerances and have very little play, and they no longer ever jamb up, the cross slide drill press vise tool is now usable and worth keeping.More updates:Decided it was still a bit to sloppy and spent a couple more hours filling out one of the uneven v-groves and added a copper shim washer to the other axis, finally some accuracy, product I’m drilling into isn’t moving around anymore,I would have been happy to pay another $100 or maybe even $200 more to not have had to go thorough all that, unfortunately I don’t even see a good option at that price point,

This is a quality cross slide vise for a reasonable price. Skip the imports and buy this – it’s worth it!
I thought I would save some money and bought the slightly larger HFT cross slide vise. That was terrible. I returned it and bought this Wilton. For one, this 4-inch size is reasonable for your typical garage size drill press. A larger size makes it unreasonable if you have anything smaller than an 18-inch table. The quality of the Wilton is so much better than any import vise. The knob design, finish, smoothness, and everything is better. You will need to adjust the gibs until this slides nicely with no play. It arrived a bit tight for me (too tight to rotate the handle with ease). After spraying some lithium grease on the dovetails and loosening up the gib screws a bit, it’s like a dream. Smooth as butter.

    Excellent for the price
Needed some basic adjustments upon arrival but it’s a nice vise, particularly for the price. Will probably pull out apart, smooth out the ways, oil and reassemble. Easy to align. The weight is heavy enough and there are five hold-down spots.

    Horrible operation
I have owned this vise for about a year now. The cross slide works ok, I guess, although the ways are far from flat, making the travel across each direction alternately too loose and then too tight. I tried every adjustment. Oh, and the adjustments are almost impossible to reach in some cases. But my main complaint is the opening of the jaws. The jaw runs on 3 slides that are so poor that the jaw gets jammed. And if you are not really careful, the single hex set screw holding the jaw to the acme screw end, just cuts itself a way out. Less trouble with closing the jaw, but you still have to open it to get your work out. Oh, and the “verniers” on the x and y axes are useless, because the acme screws have so much slack in their nuts, that if you change directions you completely lose your zero point. Extremely poor purchase for me.

    Fits my drill press great
Refurbishing this 1970’s drill press and this was a great addition. I can now drill precise holes without having to reposition my vise. It’s clamped down and I can make minute adjustments with the x and y handles. Not shown in the photo are the 1/2” bolts with washers and wing nuts holding it down. I can get 3 out of the 5 feet bolted down.
