Loving this compound miter saw so far!
I’ll admit that I’ve only had this thing for a hot minute and only used it for the first time tonight, to cut some angled posts for stair handrails. I have been looking at a miter saw for a while and have read a ton of reviews, gone to various big box stores to look at different models, etc. I just didn’t want to pull the trigger, mainly because of prices. But when this thing was on sale for almost exactly $100, I felt it was worth a try, based on some really good reviews and online video reviews. Unboxing and setup was very simple – it took maybe 5 or 10 minutes, total. The instructions were a little lacking, but overall doable. First, I checked some common angles on the table and the bevel, and all were dead-on accurate, straight out of the box – no need for any adjustments, at all! All stops on both the table and bevel are clearly and perfectly marked and easily visible while working. The locking positions on the table work well. As others have mentioned, the nut on the blade is torqued ridiculously tight, so I decided to give the stock blade a couple of passes to see just how bad it was, before putting in the effort to change it out. To my surprise, it cut like absolute butter through numerous cedar 4x4s and left a clean edge. So I’ll put off messing with the crazy tight lock nut on the blade until I’m working on something that I definitely need a blade with more teeth. Several people have mentioned the guard. It does feel to be on the flimsier side, and has a little play in it. But nothing so bad that it made me feel unsafe using it, in any way. Pop this baby down and lock it into position, and it’s so light and easy to carry around. I could definitely see this being super helpful on a worksite where portability is needed. Would it be nice to have a sliding compound miter saw? Of course. But it’s not incredibly necessary for anything that I’m doing around the house. Would it be nice to have a double bevel? Sure. But it’s not a deal breaker. Like I said, I’ve only had this for a day, and only used it for a few small things. But if it performs for the next couple years like it did for me, today, then this will be one of the best power tool purchases I’ve ever made, especially at this price!

Quality and value
This saw replaced a 20+ year old Hitachi which simply wore out from many years of good use. Itâs my understanding that Matabo is the successor company to Hitachi for the manufacturing of these saws and considering the similarities I believe it. Although the Hitachi was 100% cast aluminum, this saw is a combination of materials and cast aluminum which makes it substantially lighter. Several minor design improvements have been made also. Hopefully the composite materials will last as long as the cast aluminum. I immediately changed out the blade to a high quality Dewalt and the saw works perfectly right out of the box – no adjustments were needed. As others have said, the blade spindle is over tightened but an impact driver made that problem quickly go away. I believe I paid more for the hitachi over 20 years ago so that makes this an incredible value as well! If I get half the use out of this saw as I did the Hitachi, I will be happy.

Out of the Box, setup, and test
Ok folks lets review this puppy from a 1st impression to final test perspective. Package came undamaged just like in person at your local B&M store. Very well packaged inside, no issues there. Price was spot on,for the intended use. ( small trim work, nothing more ) “Dummirections ” aka user manual easy to follow. Bonus ! After installing the few things that came for inital setup, the usual stuff needed, per the dummi…….Made some tweaking to a few things like loose bolts/screws, overtightened tight bolts/screws, just to tweek in the personal needs. First off the blade that comes with it is pure JUNK, if you use it, it’s for a desperate need to cut. Get a good blade folks. 2nd, it is a low end priced unit, expect nothing more than that. Quality wise, actually it’s a quite good saw, the blade guard needed tweeking. So I put on a cheap new 60T blade and made some cuts on soft pine cull 1×4″. Cut true @ 90, same at 45, right out of the box, per the stops on the table. pretty spot on, nice !. Didn’t try the single bevel option, since I probably won’t need that on this project. Overall, it’s a good go to saw in a pinch, DIY for a “honey do” list heck yes ! Contractor grade ? Not really, only because of the noise level, vibration of motor, loose feeling weight at <25lb. and other things that I care not to go into here. Overall, I should have bought 10 of these, no joke, I I have good vibes on this unit, it’s well worth the investment. If your looking to ” keep up with the Jones” for less $, pull the trigger on this one. A good craftsman can always make it perfect.

very good saw
is a very well built saw, has many positives like angle cuts, and tilts for cutting window frames,, only negative is, DOES NOT COME WITH ALL ATTACHMENTS, HAVE TO BUY SEPERATLY. i think they should come with saw for the price paid, has been two months now, still waiting for attachments to arrive, and they where hard to find and weren’t cheap, adds another 70 dollars to the price of the saw, for that i take away one star.

A beast of a saw for the DIY’er
this is a great saw. Very easy to set up and use I bought this primarily to cut trim ad char rails for wainscoting Cuts clean and accurate – straight, miter and bevel. Easily cuts a 2×4 or 4×4 with one cut. Beyond that you may need a larger saw, but for what I need to cut, it’s perfect. Instructions and diagrams are very small print so I recommend going to the website and downloading the pdf manual so you can enlarge

Great Miter Saw
I did not need a miter saw that extends, and that would make it harder for me to store it. Not sure how long the safety guard will last since it feels flimsy, but as far as cutting, it cuts percise and quickly. I can easily cut a 4″X4″ with no issues which was my main concern.

Great cheap saw
Iâm no carpenter, but this saw was great, blade was fine, cut wood and composite boards with no issue. I returned the extra blades I bought just in case.

GREAT little saw – Great value
This is a great little “chop” saw. Cuts 2×4’s and 2×6’s (straight cut) with ease. Save the big expensive 12″ DeWalt saw for cabinet making. This is a great secondary saw for framing and generally abusive cutting.

it’s a basic chopsaw, not a big one, but it works great. If you are expecting a 700$ Dewalt, you will not be happy.

I really like this Miter saw. I use it on a daily basis and have never had a problem. It’s not that heavy to lift and set up is easy. If you are just starting off in woodworking or if your a seasoned woodworker I urge you to give this saw a look. Great product.

My first mitre saw, so I have nothing to compare it to. Saw works well. It cuts well and is easy to use. Seems to have plenty of power. I used it to cut PT lumber for decking. To cut a 6 inch wide board on an angle (like 45 degrees), you need to cut one side and then flip it over to match up the cut on the other side, then finish the cut. I guess a sliding mitre saw would allow you to cut something like that in one cut, but not this saw. Staight cuts were not a problem in one cut for 6 inch wide boards though. Instructions to set it up are confusing. Found a video on YouTube that helped me so much. Dust bag catches a small percentage of the dust. Most of the saw dust goes everywhere else BUT in the bag. So best to use this outdoors in my opinion, or be prepared for lots of vacuuming when you’re done. But as I said, this saw gets the job done and works well overall.
