    Worked for me
I didn’t have high expectations for this because it’s not something I’m going to use more than once every few years, but it was totally fine for me. I do own a set of Marples chisels bought 30 years ago and this didn’t seem like too much of s drop off from those, but maybe my old set was more of an entry-level at the time of purchase? I just needed something to help deepen a wood channel for a .118” thick plexi insert that was cut a bit too wide. This came in a plastic bag so I can see how it could have arrived bent, but the point was well protected, very sharp, and it did not arrive bent, meaning I was able to use it right away. Good deal for the price and speed of arrival, and fills the smaller end of the set of chisels I already had (1”, 3/4”, 1/2”, 1/4” and now 1/8”). Worked out well for me.

    Pleasantly surprised
For 5 bucks, I really had low expectations when I ordered this chisel. I’ve been struggling along with a 1/8″ chisels I made out of an allen wrench so I figured if works even marginally better I/d be happy. Then I took it out of the package and was immediately struck by the heftiness of the shank. I don’t know why but I wasn’t expecting a mortise chisel but that’s what this is. And I have to say it works really well for chopping a 1/8″ mortise in hard maple. I don’t know how many 1/8″ mortises you guys chop but the test one I did was my first and likely two be the last 1/8″ mortise but it worked very well for that. The sides are parallel which is more than I can say for a Narex mortise chisel I recently paid 5X as much for. It was actually usably sharp right out of the package and back is flat so I’m impressed with this $5.00 chisel. It’s very likely I’ll buy more of this brand. Even though I hate the blue plastic but I “Cosmanized” it with black hockey tape before I even took the plasic card off so that took care of that issue. All in all I’m very pleasantly surprised and quite happy with the purchase.

    Very well crafted chisel
Very good chisel for framing and large timber fittings. Only thing is that it is very sharp when it came but not razor sharp. needed a further sharpening before really useful. also, the handle is a bit shorter than i expected, especially for the purpose and the width of the blade.

MAKE YOUR OWN STATUETTES (Review #23)
(This is twenty-two in a series of reviews describing products used for the making of PHOTO STATUETTES. All 28 reviews are yours by clicking “Ron Z” and scrolling down or by clicking the x in Ron’s x-tab (above). The series begins Nov 18, 2013 with Elmer’s Foam Boards, 20 x 30 Inches, 1/2-Inch Thick, Black/Black, 10-Count (951300)).We have cut our bar(s) into various lengths and now it is time to choose one for a base.If you are in the process of making a full-length statuette an 8-inch base will probably suffice. Temporarily insert your statuette into its groove. See how “8” looks; then maybe try a “9”. If you are making a bust-type statuette do the same, but of course with a longer base.Be sure to leave space on both sides of your statuette. For example, the bust I am making measures 7.5″ wide, and, I have chosen a 10-inch long base. This shall leave 1.25″ on both sides. The space serves as margins on both left and right. It’s part of the design, or, the “overall concept”.Return your statuette to a safe place.REMOVING THE ACRYLICAfter choosing a base we must remove its acrylic nameplate; this, for a label and a Color-aid strip. Reinserted thereafter it is removed nevermore.Any removal procedure will do as long as it does not scratch the acrylic. Following are three methods one of which should be useful:METHOD #1Start by pushing one end of the acrylic up and out using a non-slip gripper material: Set of 2 – Easy Non Slip Jar / Lid Opener Gripper Pad. Completely remove acrylic strip.METHOD #2Here we’ll be using a flat bamboo skewer: Pack of 200 Flat Bamboo Skewers for BBQ, Skewer, Shish Kabobs, Appetizers (6 INCH). Sand pointed end to a gradual slope using your belt sander (Review #4).Push skewer into your 1/16th gap. Give it a tap with a hammer if needed. Lateral movement invites scuffs and scratches so slide it in at the groove’s WALL as you push. Use the groove’s wall to maintain a straight push. The process should raise the acrylic high enough for you to cajole and remove it by hand.METHOD #3a. Use a 1/8th or 1/4-inch wood chisel. (My IRWIN 1/8th chisel [featured] has served me well). Run a strip of double-sided tape up the shank, over the blade and down the other side. Scotch Permanent Double Sided Tape, 1/2 x 250 Inches 3-Pack Caddy(3136)b. Remove excess tape from the sides of the metal shank by sliding a razor blade up or down.c. Run a flat shoelace up the shank, over the blade and down the other side. Press it securely against the tape. Skateboard Style Flat Shoelaces 3/8″ Wide, incorrectly advertised as 1/2″ wide, For All Shoes – 45″ and 54″ Lengths Then, with the shoelace acting as a buffer, apply your chisel to the 1/16th gap. Carefully force your acrylic strip upward for fingers to finish the job of removal.Cleanup: Remove tape from chisel. Use Goo Gone to eliminate sticky residue. Goo Gone 8 oz. – Removes stickers, grease, gum, tar, crayon & tapeNEXT: Color-Aid. Coloraid Full Set of 314 Color Swatches – 4.5 x 6 Inches

    SHARP!
    Perfect narrow chisel.

  8. Tennis322

    Sharp out of the box.
I was really pleased to see that this chisel was sharp right out of the box. I did sharpen it using a fine stone and found the back to be relatively flat – not requiring much work to lap the back. Pleased that a large manufacturer had such good quality control

  9. David Moniuk

    Does the job very well.

  10. Jamie Sheppard

was pleasantly suprised by the quality of this chisel was very easy to get a honed edge and it holds an edge quite nicely

  11. Waterloo guy

I was a bit skeptical, but this chisel has really been excellent. Using on very hard wood ( ebony, rosewood) for inlay and nut slots on guitars. I have been really happy with how sharp I can get it, and how smoothly it cuts.

  12. Juan Valle

Lo uso para hacer algunos surcos delgados, trabajo con guitarras y tenía un formon hechizo, pero estoy es de calidad, 100% recomendado, además es ergonómico
