Absolutely flawless hatchet made in 🇺🇸
This one surprised me with quality lol it’s actually made in USA and they overdid their selves with this beast. I haven’t used it yet but I’m sure this will do the job of any axe. It’s very well made and has sharp edge and hammer on back that will work great for your tent stakes. It’s perfectly balanced and has a nice handle. My only complaint is the paint rubbed off already just touching it, and where barcode was it peeled off completely. They didn’t do paint well at all, in fact I’m gonna sand blast it off and give it the right coat. Not that paint matters but they could have done way better job for what it costs. I love this thing and can’t wait to try it out. 100% recommend this one but not the paint.

    A great small axe!
This axe (which is more of a hatchet, really) is an excellent tool for camping. It is relatively small and compact, which is great for any gear. Despite its small size, it has pretty good head weight and can chop pretty well through anything you might use for firewood or shelter. It is too small for cutting any large timber, but will get through logs a foot in diameter (and probably bigger) without wasting too much valuable energy. Obviously, as a camper, you will rarely if ever cut through logs of that diameter. This is a great tool for acquiring firewood and for cutting and prepping wood for making shelter. The full steel construction is a great feature on this product. The axe will not break and is a very reliable tool. Under heavy load, the shaft has some flex between the head and the handle. You probably won’t be using this tool for prying, but it’s good to have some flex in a steel handle to prevent breakage. For any throwers out there, this axe is a little harder to throw than a lighter hatchet or one that is more head-heavy; the steel handle on this axe shifts the balance away from the head slightly compared to a wooden-handled axe. It is still fun to throw and not too hard to stick, and will do a lot more damage than a smaller axe or hatchet because of the weight (not that you should be assaulting anyone with an axe). The steel is pretty good as well. The problem that the manufacturers of chopping and heavy-duty cutting tools face is that the tool must be very strong and rigid, hold up well to the elements and a lot of abuse, and hold an edge well all at the same time. The steel is some sort of stainless, though I’m not really sure what kind. It holds a decent edge; there are tiny chips in the edge after about a month of moderately heavy use but that is to be expected of a chopping tool. The blade is pretty easy to sharpen. The axe is very rigid and strong, and has light flex in the shaft as mentioned earlier. The handle is made of some sort of rubber compound. The grip is great, and it fits in the hands very well. The rubber held up well to impact; it took some practice throwing and getting this thing to stick into the target, so the rubber experienced plenty of hard hits on solid wood and ground. So far, no missing chunks of rubber and no ripping or tearing.Overall, I would say that this tool is a great blend of size, weight, durability, and usefulness for the camping enthusiast. I have camped with it, but I haven’t used it for backpacking yet; I will probably take it along next time because I am confident that the extra weight of this axe compared to a small hatchet will be made up by the energy saved by its chopping abilities. 5/5

Best General Use Camp Axe Out
Durability and craftsmanship in a good full bodied, steel axe. Slender head profile bites deep into wood and can serve as a light splitter as well. Batoning on it and overstrikes are of little concern being there is no wooden or synthetic handle to worry about. Heavier than some of the ones using other handle materials but very well balanced . This is the in between one for when an axe is too much to pack and a hatchet may not be enough to get the job done easily. Fell small trees, split wood for small campfires, drive steaks, chop corn and break rocks if you like, it’s capable. Handy, durable, and hard to get a hold of when camping season kicks off. Fellow campers may choose to borrow your axe versus using their own if they try it. Slim neck design under head I’ve heard makes it difficult to choke up for small precise work or feathering but I have large hands and no issues with these types of chores. Yes a thicker handle would be nicer but then it would be a=of a less sturdy material. Good rubberized large griping area which cushion the blows well and limits hand fatigue. Get it and if for some reason you don’t care for it you should have no problem finding someone to buy it from you!

    Excellent Hand Axe
This is my 3rd Estwing axe.Pros: The one piece construction is nearly indestructible, and the blue cushioned grips take a lot of shock out of my swings and hits. The steel is a durable medium carbon metal with a good heat treatment. I’ve abused my Estwings over the years, and they have held up; no chipping or edge rolling. Also, you can actually use the hammer section to drive nails or pound the crap out of stuff. You’re not supposed to do this with expensive conventional axes because hammering deforms the axe heads. I like the non-leather head cover/sheath which doesn’t hold moisture, or rot in humid climates. This axe head configuration is a good compromise for a utility axe. However, its better at chopping wood, than it is at splitting wood. It’s an excellent general use tool (not a specialty axe) that can be used for a lot of camp chores and (car borne) bushcraft adventures.Cons: At a little over 3 pounds, it’s not light. All of the wilderness weight weenies will cry and moan about how heavy this axe is.Recommendations: I would recommend purchasing the Estwings with the blue vinyl handles. The blue vinyl absorbs shock, and (IMHO) is more comfortable and durable than the leather stacked axe handles. My dad’s old Estwing axe with leather stacked handles was an excellent tool, but when hit by knives or other axes (We used to throw our knives and axes a lot back in our “Doktari” days), the leather handle came apart, section by section. This was clear product abuse, but I believe the blue vinyl handles are a bit more rugged. Also, I would recommend buying the non-coated version and save a few bucks. It’s easy enough to put your own coating on this axe with whatever spray paint or enamel you have lying around the garage. The older I get, the more I use ugly florescent (green, orange, red, etc) 80’s looking paint on my blades (axes, shovels, latin machetes, parangs, barongs, kukris, bush knives, etc), to contrast against the ambient jungle, and deter theft.

When I ordered I was worried it wouldn’t be much more useful than a hatchet, hummed and hawed that the 26″ might be better. Oh boy, this thing is MUCH more substantial than a standard camp hatchet, while being small enough to pack around quite easily.Looking forward to putting it though its paces this summer.

I have no issues with this product. It came to me in perfect condition and the edge is fairly sharp and NOT dull like others say.I’m using this for axe throwing and would say that if you want this for chopping wood get a full size splitting axe because this isn’t big enough. Too bad that so many people complain about a small axe not being able to split huge pieces of wood. Common sense.

I used this axe every day when I managed the biggest axe throwing venue in the southern hemisphere. There isnt much to say about these axes, except they are made from high quality steel, and are an amazing tool that will last you a lifetime.
