Drill America DWT Series Qualtech High-Speed Steel round adjustable die is desired for improved wear life. Round Dies are chamfered on both faces. One side has a 2 to 3 thread chamfer for threading, the other side has a 1 to 1-1/2 thread chamfer for threading close to a shoulder. Adjustment is obtained by a fine pitch screw which forces the sides of the die apart, or allows them to spring together. The slot is beveled so that when the die is use in a machine holder the adjusting screw can be removed and adjustment made by the adjusting screws in the holder.

    work Fine, Quick Shipping
I’m not a machinist and have basic tools. I need to make screws occasionally for vintage revolver grips and these dies work fine. I usually make the screw from a Brownell’s Blank screw. Super quick shipping.

    High quality tools
They produced a very high quality tool the next day. Would recommend them to anyone and I have been a mechanic in precision tooling industry for over 30 years.

  3. Joel P.

Does a good job on stainless rod
Not a lot to say about these. They appear well made, cut well and leave a good finish on the work piece. I’ll buy their dies again.

    Cuts good
    Threading sucker rod

    Great item
I had to do a new thread on a stainless steel rod, it did it perfect

    VERY happy with this die
I bought this die because I was having difficulty with a new die that came with a tap from another vendor that had good ratings. I am using it to thread stainless steel rods (1/8″). The other die was not adjustable, and it did not cut new threads very well. Perhaps it should only be used for cleaning up existing threads but it was supposed to be HSS (though labled ‘S’). This die cut new threads on the stainless steel rods at least 5 times easier and much quicker. I had to go very slow, 15 degrees or less forward and back off, with the other die. With this one, the threading started easier and the cuts seem like I might be able to just go forward, though my style is to be more careful. I am VERY happy to have made this purchase and applaud the function AND value, and fast shipping from Drill America on this product.

    Country of origin
I paid a bunch extra for a part made locally. Checked with them. Received a part made in China. My first review wasn’t posted due to stating this in detail. Do not buy.

Inexpensive die works well on aluminum
Bought this for a project I was working on, where I needed to thread 3 pieces of 1/2″ aluminum bar stock to fit into a a fixture. I put the die in a die holder on my lathe and turned about 1/2″ of thread on the three pieces. It cut pretty well as it did not tear the threads. It is HSS but doesn’t state what grade. It is cheap enough that I expect it to be M1 or Possibly M2. I don’t know how well it would work on steel, or other ferrous materials.

-this thing looks like its 50 years old and has been used an abused-had to double check the listing to make sure I didn’t buy a used item, but it’s sold as newEDIT:-actually it still taps fine, tested on steel, rust on teeth was just surface — rating increased to 3

  10. James Sutton

Works as expected. I’ve used it to cut several threads on small projects in my lathe. It does take some patience due to the size.

  11. Amazon Customer

    worked great

  12. Amazon Customer

Poorly made. Wouldn’t even start on an existing m7 x1.25 thread. Don’t waste your time or money. Sent straight back for a refund. Only gets one star because I can’t give none.

  13. Amazon Customer

did the job with no problems
