Pretty awesome compared to my old Makita 18v hammer drill
My old Makita was similar; 3 speed, 18v lithium with hammer setting. But this Dewalt is much better!First off sheer drilling power is sooo much more powerful. I drilled a thick commercial wood door to install a deadbolt, and the Dewalt bored the big hole in about 30 seconds on fast setting 3. Was like “WOW!” Went from taking about 15-20 minutes to 30 seconds. The LED light is much much brighter too. Much more useful and there is a timer setting sort of.Another thing I really like is the case. It is more compact than the old Makita case. It will only fit 2 batteries which is sort of a bummer but it is heavy with just two 5 AH batteries. I dropped the whole thing on my toe when I wasn’t wearing my work boots and it sucked! Ouch! The drill itself is fairly compact for the rating it has. It feels good in the hand and is somewhat balanced. The batteries take a long time to charge which is one of the down sides. My Makita batteries charge faster even my 5 AH one.Another sort of downside is the chuck is sort of finicky. I had a hard time with it releasing the bits. It seemed to have fixed itself but it was really stuck. This drill has a LOT of power so be careful! A person could easily sprain their wrist so be sure to use the extra handle if you think you might hit a knot in the wood or a nail or something. Also definitely wear gloves for vibration protection and for the chuck. I had to take off my wedding ring so it wouldn’t destroy it trying to get the chuck to release. It tore up a rag I was using to protect my skin, and tore my non-latex gloves to shreds in an instant. Wear some pretty tough gloves too, not cheap ones. It will tear them apart fast.I’ve owned lots of dewalt, makita, crafstman and milwaukee drills over the years including a few corded ones and this Dewalt seems to be the most powerful I’ve owned. I have done handy work for almost 25 years now professionally and this drill is crazy on the torque and raw power. I won’t be using it on easy jobs my smaller lighter drills can handle. I will only be using it on heavy duty jobs. Its frickin’ dangerous! But all-in-all I really like it and it was an excellent purchase and paid for itself the first time I used it. 5 star for sure. Be sure to read all the reviews as there are a lot of good insights here that were helpful to me.

    Love it!
It is replacing my old 18V Dewalt drill. This one is so much faster and of course having the hammer drill is great. It works wonderfully and gets the job done with the Dewalt quality of being tough.

    Reliable and strong
Very reliable and strong drill. Not very heavy for the power it has. Love it and would buy again if I needed it.

Dewalt still as good as old ones
Works as good as I knew it would.

DEWALT 20V MAX XR Hammer Drill Kit, Brushless, 3-Speed, Cordless (DCD996P2)
My old 18V Dewalt Drill died after 8 years of well tested service. I’ve been mixing small batches of concrete in a 2 gallon bucket with this drill so far and it’s doing great !

Extremely capable and powerful drill with very precise and useful electronic clutch.
This is a revised review of this drill kit.The first one I got had what was apparently a faulty charger which got very hot smelled like burning insulation and did not properly charge the batteries. It was very dangerous and could have started a fire with the battery in it which was seriously not good and very dangerous.A burning 20 volt 5 amp hour lithium battery is a seriously unpleasant prospect. However I elected to exchange it with Amazon for another new one which they sent overnight and it works fine. The charger just gets warm, not hot and charges the batteries quite quickly.I love the brushless drill itself and the power of it’s 20 volt 5 amp hour batteries. The batteries last longer than I do and driving over a hundred 2 1/2″ Simpson clip screws left the battery still showing a full charge. It would have fully discharged my smaller Bosch which would have struggled with this sized screw. The Dewalt did them very quickly easily and efficiently ion the middle of its two speeds much faster and easier than my little Bosch. It probably weighs twice as much as my Bosch, but that is a good thing, the extra mass , especially of the battery does a great job of countering it’s considerable torque making it much easier on my wrist and actually allowing me to operate it comfortably and effectively without the add on handle. On the Bosch my wrist would be very sore by now.So, one star off for the first bad and dangerous charger, but if you make sure your charger isn’t over heating, you should be fine, if it is, send it back to Amazon, they probably sent you my old one.One of the other reviewers gave it one star because the battery was loose in the drill, mine is a little loose (wobbly) too, but fully secured and it works fine, so what. The electronic clutch is really nice, you can precisely set it to seat a heavy screw without stripping it.I have now also purchased the compact saber saw and circular saw for this wonderful 20 volt 5 amp system and the saws are extremely powerful and fast.Second charger and third battery came with circular saw kit I have, so now back up charger and 3 batteries.I will be getting more tools in this series as well.

    Very reliable cordless hammer drill
I purchased this DeWalt hammer drill approx. 2 years ago and consider it a robust drill that can stand hard use without any issues. Battery life is more than adequate, but best to have a spare battery handy if used for more than a routine household task. I also use Mikita power tools and consider DeWalt and Mikita power tools to be of comparable (excellent) quality.

We are a desalt family and will never change that it will always be a 10/10 from us, they are strong and last for a very long time compared to your cheaper tools from off brands, would 100% recommend

There is not much to dislike about this drill. It has tonnes of power, 3 speeds and a great hammer function and powerful batteries. Bit pricey but I think it’s going to be worth it.
