3M General Purpose Vinyl and Hazard Marking Tapes 764 are the cost-effective choice for a variety of safety marking and color coding applications where you don’t see tough conditions or the need for long term clean removal. Conformability, instant adhesion and easy unwind make these tapes ideal for marking equipment, walls and pipes. Designed with unique stretch properties, this vinyl tape conforms to rough, irregular, curved and convex surfaces while remaining stretched and without lifting after application. The rubber adhesive offers quick stick and excellent holding strength on many substrates. It also maintains its color when exposed to abrasion, wear and many solvents. Using 3M Vinyl 764 Tape is a faster, more versatile and less costly option than painting, which often requires ventilation and time-consuming prep and clean-up processes. Recommended applications include floor marking; general purpose holding and bundling; color coding; marking of parts or machines; temporary protection of parts, equipment or products from abrasion; and decorating.

Good product for use on changeable messages on vinyl banners
Excellent product for my needs. We have large banners to announce upcoming projects with blank spaced for dates, etc. The vinyl banners don’t wipe clean with any of the typical markers, leaving ghosts of prior marking. We ordered this tape to place on the banners so that we could write on it and remove it without damage to the banner. We can now use a large Sharpie to write 2.5″ lettering in black on the tape applied to the banner and then remove it and reuse it for the next event. It works perfectly, the marker does not bleed through, the tape removes easily without leaving residue, the tape adheres out doors and in the rain, and the color perfectly matches the banner’s background. The only thing we must do is carefully remove the tape from the roll as it may stretch a bit if care is not used but it is not difficult to straighten out as it is carefully applied to the banner.

    Alternative to Duct Tape
Excellent tape. Strong and waterproof. It can be removed cleanly unlike old duct tape, which leaves a messy residue.

    Great product
I spent a lot of time researching the differences between this (764) and 3M 471 Vinyl Tape. The 471 products is wildly more expensive while this is very affordable. My research told me that the adhesive (rubber based) on the two products is identical and the only real difference is the body – the supposed vinyl. While the 471 is made out of actual vinyl, this product is made from Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).I bought this tape for a single application – to seam together large sheets on vinyl insulation backing. My process was to tack the tape to the material first at room temperature and then use a heat gun to stretch the tape if needed, and to get a permanent bond with the heat and pressure. The tape is a bit stiff at room temperature, but can get very limp and stretchy (kind of like a sandwich baggie) when hot. I also had to adhere the tape to a metal window frame. My installation went well. This is only an indoor application, but so far it’s performing to my expectations. The tape is still adhering well (to the vinyl and the metal) and is doing exactly what I wished – and some of the pieces I do have under some amount of stress after the stretch.

    Good stuff, not as stretchy
3m makes good stuff, but this wasn’t as stretchy as I was expecting. I have had other similar vinyl tape that had much more stretch and that’s what I was looking for, but I will still put it to use.

  5. Flyinglow

    Beats duct tape
I use this for all sorts of things. Sticks well but comes off easily. Just as strong as duct tape but much easier to use and better looking while in place. Doesn’t leave that hard to remove adhesive and residue you get with duct tape after it’s been in place for a while. Even easier cut (but not easier to tear). Nice to have multiple colors available.

  6. Swernt

    Good for pickleball lines
We used this tape to make indoor pickleball courts in a gym with (linoleum?) tile flooring. (Not ceramic). The tape adheres well and stands up to use over time. (More than a year in a school gymnasium). The color stands out. 3 rolls will be more than enough for a Pickleball court.

  7. JDRanger

    Way to thin
Way too thin. It’s very hard to separate the backing from the tape and it usually folds onto itself making a big ball of useless tape.

  8. Mike Goble

    Nice
    Great tape, will buy again..

  10. Melinda

This vinyl tape is amazing and there’s so much of it that it will last me a lifetime since I purchased it to transform a gray floor lamp into a white floor lamp. It was extremely easy to apply and I’m absolutely delighted with the results. I love how this vinyl tape conforms to whatever shape you apply it to. So much better than duct tape which is rigid. Now that I have so much of it left I think my next project will be to convert a black picture frame into a white picture frame. I’m sure down the road I’ll figure out many other uses for this fantastic tape.

  11. Jenn

I use this to put x’s on my classroom floor works better than painter’s tape

  12. R.sukumar

    Okay good

  13. KarStew1

It’s no longer cheaper to buy duct tape at the dollar store and the quality of the dollar store duct tape isn’t great. This tape is quite good. I use it to hold down a carpet in my classroom. I love that the glue does not leave a residue. The price is quite good as well especially considering how much tape is on the roll.
