This IRWIN Universal Handsaw features a unique handle-to-blade design and triple-ground teeth to completely eliminate binding and cut up to 3 times faster than traditional handsaws through virtually any material. The universal tooth grind on each handsaw removes material quickly to combine the speed of a coarse-cutting saw with the finish of a fine-cutting saw. A tapered-pitch nose on the blade profile provides improved clearance through materials and adds stability to each stroke, while the thick-body saw blade uses a water-based lacquer coating that helps you deliver fast, controlled cuts.

    Exactly as described
I purchased this saw for melamine, the hardened teeth was the idea to save the teeth on my disston. It does excellent work, the clean side is perfect, and the rough side isn’t bad either. The saw is flexy like all of these are, and the handle has a slight bit of play which makes the 90 and 45 marks questionable, but this thing cuts beautifully.

Sharp and sturdy, great even for cutting 6×6 lumber.
I don’t have a circular saw and needed to build a retaining wall from pressure treated 6×6 lumber. With careful marking on 3 sides of the beam, I was able to cut through them straight and clean in around a minute. I made about 10 cuts, and it was a pleasure to work with. Far easier and cheaper in the end than buying a circular saw and rolling the lumber to cut part way through all 4 sides. More recently I built a shelf from two 2×10 boards and after gluing up and sanding I cut through the whole 2×20 easily and cleaned up the edge to a high finish with a router. It is very sharp and rigid enough that it is easy to keep the saw cutting on track. I appreciate hand saws once again.

Best Hand Saw I’ve Ever Used
I’ve only ever used cheap, dull hand saws. Using this was quite a pleasant surprise. It cross cuts extremely quickly with little effort and is easy to control. It is not quite at good at ripping, hence -1 star. It tends to wander when ripping and is a little difficult to keep straight. I’ve never used a dedicated ripping saw, but I have to believe one would work better than this. If I ever do get a ripping specific hand saw someday and find out this saw did just as well, I’ll come back and give it one more star.

    Amazing saw
This product is amazing visually straight out the box all stainless steel. After using the saw I believe this saw is the best hand saw for the value on the market. The teeth bit right in to get the job done. A++ must buy if you need a hand saw

    Incredible hand saw
While my creator did bless me with a chiseled jaw line and rippling abs, he did not grant me chainsaw arms that are powered by my awesomeness… it is for that reason I find it necessary to own chainsaws, and handsaws such as this one. Now, first of all, this is not my first rodeo… I have owned and operated my share of handsaws. This particular saw puts the others to shame. This thing blew through a 4×4 pressure treated post in seconds. Not only that, but the blade is nice and thick, so it doesn’t bind and buckle under pressure, like Gronk did for the patriots in the super bowl. The handle is also quite an improvement over past wooden designs. It is a durable plastic with slightly grippy inserts, so while you are out there in your cutoff jean shorts and halter top and the sun has turned you into a dripping wet schoolgirl you will be sure that your grip on this saw will not be meddled with.Similar to my godlike quads and lower back, you will be amazed at how strong of a performer this saw is… pick one up today.

    Great Saw for the Price
Cuts fast and straight with little effort. Feels very comfortable to use. Great value for the price. Is now my go to saw for sizing lumber and plywood before finishing.

Very over rated, does not cut quicker or cleaner than other well known brands,,,disappointed really

    Jaw drop, rocked-in-the-face-awesome
I understand Sabretooth came out with a similar saw to the Irwin 20″ Universal hand saw, and I do not know how it works or compares to this saw, but let me tell you all, it was both fun and stunning to use the Irwin saw. I have not tried it on multiple different types of material, and I shall, but until then, I am relying on the 2×6 that I reduced by two feet using this monster of a saw, and, using those parameters, I can tell you it was, instead of a chore, a pleasure to saw that board almost in half. It was over so fast, I can almost swallow their claims that it is three times faster than traditional saws, not quite, but almost there. Which is astounding news, just so you know. Just getting it for cutting wood nearly three times faster is worth the twenty extra dollars. This could probably replace a chainsaw if one were willing to put in an extra half hour on not wasting the gas or electricity to power it, it is that fast. The resulting cut is not spectacular, but it is better than some that leave those annoying progressive ridges in the wood. Seeing its performance, I would say this saw is probably universal, but that it probably gets messier to saw on the other, more brittle, substances. However, universal most likely does not mean you can make a quantum leap to using it as a hacksaw. Within reason, one of the reviews I read said, and I will emulate it. Take care of this saw, and it will work wonders for you. Oh, and don’t dare to sharpen it. Irwin says it will ruin their special grind on the teeth. I do have a few complaints though. Irwin cut corners some. The handle is ergonomic, but made of flimsy plastic. I could probably unearth the saw blade from the handle with one super tug. And because the handle is comparable to feces, the blade wobbles around easily when sawing, making for a difficult time when trying to saw exactly straight. Other than those, no other complaints. I recommend it.

Good sharp saw. Cheaper than box stores.

  10. Amazon Customer

It is light weight and the hardened teeth make quick work of any wood I’ve cut so far
