    Outstanding product!
I love this plate. It cuts nicely and no water or oil is needed. I own a set of DMT plates: the aforementioned 325 mesh (coarse) and as well as the 600 (fine) and 1200 (extra fine). You save a lot of time and money using these plates instead of water stones. No mess and no flattening stones necessary. No pressure is needed: just let the DMT do all the work. These DMT plates actually get better the more you use them.

    Super quality
As I mentioned in other reviews for this company’s products, these diamond blocks are super high quality and do a fantastic job on a knife edge. A little bit of a learning curve for cleaning and using but I absolutely love these things. Don’t be scared of the price, these things are worth every penny. Awesome product!

    Coarse= super sharp
I bought the coarse grit stone and as a test, used it to sharpen a utility blade from my Stanley utility knife. I gave it a few passes on either side and raised up a burr. I did not have a strop or compound with me so I just stropped it on the back of my belt that I was wearing. Unbelievable how sharp I got that blade, sharper than a new one. In about a minute. Stunning.

A little uneven out of the box. Good overall.
I wanted a diamond stone that could do triple-duty as a japanese waterstone flattener and knife repair type work, maybe even scissors or other household items. This stone seems to fit the bill but it did have some rough spots or raised diamond flecks that gouged-up my softer 5000 grit waterstone when new. To break in this DMT stone I ground off the the broken tip of an older chef’s knife and used another smaller diamond stone to polish off the edges of this stone. It seems pretty uniform and OK for use on my waterstones now. Use caution if you decide to attack this diamond stone with another diamond stone in an attempt to speed up the break-in process. The edges of my new DMT coarse stone are now a bit too smooth and polished. The stone has lost its bite in those areas and I am unsure if it will return in time with use. Aside from the few aberrant rough spots out of the box, this DMT coarse stone isn’t as coarse as I thought it would be. It produces a not-too-rough toothy edge that is appropriate as a final edge on some of my knives that I like to use for tougher chores. This 325 mesh DMT stone seems like a good compromise for people who want a diamond stone that can multi-task like myself.

    Perfect choice for my chisels
This is my third DMT Diamond stone. I made the mistake of purchasing a “bargain brand” of the same description, but I quickly learned that I had made a horrid mistake. DMT really makes great stones…I do lathe work for a living, and I use these to keep my skews razor sharp. It is quick and easy to pause in the middle of a lathe turning (when my chisel is becoming dull), an touch up the edge on this stone with a bit of water. In like 45 seconds, it’s done and my tool is again cutting with smoothness and precision. Yes, these stones do wear out…yes, every time you use it, it loses a bit of “cutting power effectiveness”, as the Diamond bits slowly wear off of the surface. But hey, that’s to be expected, as nothing lasts forever. But I can tell you, these last a long time for my uses, and when they become worn/cumbersome, I just order another one and I’m happy! I find that one of these 8” DMT stones last me almost a full year before I finally admit that it’s time for a new one. Not a bad price for a year’s service, and I literally use it daily.

It really works as well as they say.
Saved my old beat up forged 8″ chef knife. This thing really works…..assuming you know how to use a stone free hand. The coarse stone is to rescue blades w/ nicks and minor bends in edge. It works fast, but not so aggressive as to make it seems like you’re grinding away too much metal. Will buy more products from this brand. (and no….doesn’t come w/ fancy wooden base)

This is a great diamond stone, at a veryr good price
I bought this to do two things: flatten my Sharpton pro stones, and as a coarse step in honing. For both processes, this excels. The one performance issue I don’t like is that the Shaptons tend to stick to it, when rubbing together. This is called stickion, and is not uncommon when flattening stones. It’s quite heavy – a plus – and has non-slip feet that the user attaches. They have held up very well. In any case, this is a terrific coarse diamond stone that may very well outlive me.

  8. Rock-On

Had a defect that should have been caught by QC
Very disappointed with this stone. I bought a DMT because they’re supposed to be amongst the best diamond sharpening stones. Once I started using it. I notice a strange drag when sharpening my first knife. Upon closer inspection, there’s a blob on the stone that must have been missed by the QC team – if they are inspecting the stones. This blob can easily be felt with a finger and shouldn’t be there. The blob was not a large diamond contamination but a chunk of metal blob on the stone. Fortunately I knew to start with an inexpensive knife so I didn’t ruin an expensive blade. Sending it back for a replacement. Hoping the new one isn’t flawed.Update: received the replacement but unfortunately it was damaged. The corner was bent up from likely being dropped. The box itself seemed ok so I’m guessing it was dropped at the factory. This bothers me because it was still shipped out which makes me question the QC department – either they missed it was damaged or they damaged it themselves and still shipped it. I’m returning it and will not order DMT products again. I cannot trust the DMT stones to sharpen my good knives.

Very good quality sharpening solution. I use it to sharpen plane irons and chisels and I’ve not seen the slightest sign of fatigue after several months of use. Guaranteed flatness, and no need for lapping… ever.To use, all that is needed is a small amount of liquid to lubricate (the manufacturer recommends water — glass cleaner is another option with no adverse effects), then sharpen, then wipe off the slurry (the swarf is sign that it’s working). The plate is quite heavy, but it helps keeping everything in place while sharpening. Let it dry and store it away. easy.I’ve found I can obtain results faster by applying very little pressure — no need to force weight down into the stone to sharpen. There is a small break-in period, after which I started getting bluish halos (photo attached). It’s a tell-sign cleaning is due, which can be done easily by a good scrubbing with a toothbrush and some kitchen/sink cleansing powder agent (such as calcium carbonate and sodium carbonate). The surface can also reportedly be cleaned with a high-polymer eraser. Even easier!Very responsive support from the manufacturer. Very satisfied customer! The prices for the coarse, fine, and extra-fine stones fluctuate somewhat, I’d recommend setting a watch.
